Health Care Provision by the Government

Introduction

Health care is one of the basic needs to human beings. Democratic governments rise to power through political parties that make manifestos which form the basis of how they will run the country. They make promises to the electorate on how they will improve the life of people once they rise in power. One of the campaign promises is based on how they will come up with prudent health care policy to suit the citizens. More so access to health care is one of the parameters which measure how well countries are doing economically and socially. It is paramount that, every person has an access to health care services in any country all over the world. The house of representative passed the health care systems which extended health care insurance to 32 million Americans, with an extension of halting down industrial practices which are discriminative against the sick with a small margin of 219 against 212 with non of the republican voting yes. The glaring question is whether the government should take full responsibility to provide health care or it should just make sure that health care is affordable and within the reach of every citizen (Devettere 462).

Arguments for provision of health care to citizens by the government

Government should take responsibility of health care providence to its citizens at all cost. Devettere (462) argued that, leaving a third party to provide health care insurance leaves a lot to be desired. In this case, if the employers are left to provide health care at their discretion then it would be very discriminative to the people who loose their job and those who are unemployed. On this basis, it is socially correct and virtually right for the government to provide health care for its citizens without discriminating. This is because health is as vital as education and hence cannot be overlooked. It should be noted that, third parties have exploited the chances by over stating the premiums with loopholes which would deny an ordinary citizen from getting prudent health care. In this case, the magnitude by which competition among investors who have vested interests in health care insurance leaves a lot to be desired. Basically, the forces are an affront to citizens’ inalienable right to access health care. On this basis, the government should take up this role and exonerate the third party factor and chip in to provide health care to its beloved citizens. Generally speaking, provision of health care to the citizens by the government is one of the social good in a country. It should be noted that, protecting health interests is larger than parochial interests of insincere, selfish and greedy individuals who want to reap from loopholes and complexity of health system in America (Devettere 462).

As indicated by (Marshall 156), access to health care should not be used as segmentation along social classes in the in the country but should be a uniting factor. As a matter of fact, it is a right not a privilege that every citizen despite their social class poor or rich, black or white they should be provided with health care at equal thresholds. Certainly, if the government cannot provide this equity through provision of health care then it will be extremely difficult to become one nation with equal health opportunities. In the case private entrepreneurs are given a leeway towards health care they will ever frustrate efforts towards a health nation. Most specifically, one group of people accessing quality health care while others cannot afford basic health care is discrimination of high magnitude. On this basis therefore, a government which cannot provide amicable solution to health care inequality has failed in its duty to defend equality among citizens. As long as the government does not take full responsibility towards health care, some people will be discriminated against their wishes. This is because it is not pathetic to be poor but it is pathetic to die from a curable disease (Marshall 156).

People have become heavy consumers of health care insurances with employees of different companies directing their investments towards health. As the forces of demand and supply dictate financial situation of citizens, health care services have become expensive day by day. Certainly, the cost of health insurance is poised to skyrocket in future if the government does not chip in and provide high level protection not by banning insurance companies but by providing an alternative to the problem. It is worth noting that, health care industry in America was the third largest industry in 1978. It would be very unfortunate if the government watches its citizens being exploited by a basic need while as it is aware that it should provide. In this case, the government should consider health as a very serious issue as it plans its budget and policies. As the first initiative comes from the citizens themselves, the need of government to take into consideration the need to a health nation cannot be overemphasized. A point worth noting is that, a populist government comes up with first aid kind of ideas whereas a responsible government will bring policies which will benefit the electorate for years. As a result of this, policies which will serve the future generation should highly be adopted. Importantly, if the need of health care has proven beyond reproach, then the government should take responsibility of providing health care needs to the citizens (Marshall 156).

It should be put to attention that, legal immigrant who some time become American citizens need to be of great health reservations. On this basis, the government is the only conduit through which these people can access this justice. When the government allows people of questionable ethics to provide health care to this important human resource investment, it will be planning to fail in future. The responsibility to protect immigrants who are poised to become legal citizens of America cannot be under estimated. Outsourcing has become the order of the day hence great country like America should stay ahead of competition and extend those subsidies not only to the current citizens but also to the future citizens who need great protection from diseases in order to be productive. As indicated by Devettere (462) it is counter productive for a government to play around with health of a single citizen by not taking full responsibility of health provision. America is a testimony of democracy hence it should remain as the testimony by giving a prudent health care equally (Devettere 462).
