With the economy steadily slipping into a state of despair, households across the globe are taking measures to cut costs and save money in every way possible. For some, this entails simply spending carefully with regard to food, utility bills, and luxuries. What many people don’t realise, however, is that insurance is one of the most important things to retain during a time of economic hardship. True, securing a policy means committing to a steady financial outgoing – for example, a set policy premium every few months. But having an insurance plan in place if something should go wrong – whether with your health, home, car or pet’s health – can make all the difference.

Consider home insurance, for instance. It can be tempting for many to cancel their home insurance policies, or for new buyers to forego a first-time policy, if financial hardship is involved. But it’s important to consider all the risks involved in leaving your home uninsured. If, for example, your home is damaged in a natural disaster or burgled while you’re out of town, home insurance can ensure the costs of damage to your home are covered.
